Monthly Update: February, 2023 (Part I)

Jesus Christo, where do I start?

At the end of the month, it will have been one year since Vladamir Poutain invaded Ukraine in the most US Cop kind of way.  By performing military drills on the Ukraine border hoping to provoke an attack and then decided that they would go in anyway under false pretenses of preventing Nazis from ruining the country except that Ukraine really isn't a country and they don't really have any culture of their own so it's not really invading.

Then there were three mass shootings in California over a week in mid-late January of this year.  Let me double check though.  Sorry, my numbers were off.  Apparently, it's been six in the last 13 days.  But who could have guessed that this could have happened?  I don't see a way that this could have been preventable.

And while we are on the topic of preventable, you would think that getting pulled over for a traffic stop would result in a ticket, not around 3 minutes of Tyre Nichols being beaten by at least five cops (hold up, seven cops), while being ignored or at least telling two medics to ignore him.  But I am sure it's just one bad apple that took over and possessed seven different cops.

And apparently, Cop City would really be the solution to all of this right?  Just a massive 85-acre training complex in 49 more states destroying state forest lands in unincorporated areas while ignoring the public outcry from those communities.  Again, like Poutain, very American.

Fucking hell.  Thoughts and prayers all around apparently. Beliefs about how inconvenient protests make life and praying that the 2nd Amendment stays intact because "God is a huge Green Bay fucking Packers fan!"  Yes, I understand the irony of the album and track title and what I am typing about.

And then there is the shit that Ron DeSantis is pulling over in Florida with their "If it ain't white or more/less than two genders, ban it" approach to American history and life in general.  Or Arizona's "if it wears makeup and looks like the wrong gender in front of more than one person while performing anything then is sex crime" bullshit bill.  And on Sunday, the Bible's (Not Really a) Day of Rest, Utah became the (next?) state to ban all gender-affirming healthcare because to hell with anyone who doesn't live their life according to someone else's own narrow socially conservative interpretation of (pick your choice of) religious texts.

Just the thought that any of my friends, or family should feel or be unsafe because someone else is uncomfortable to the point of violence with their existence infuriates me to no end.

P.S.

Yeah, I know Oregon has its own problems too with a lot of cities taking a "Not in my backyard" approach to houseless people or the city of Portland planning to herd houseless people into government-sanctioned camps, among other issues.
