Monthly Update: October, 2019

Happy October.  Or Spooktober.  Or Vodkatober.  Or Inktober.  Whatever is your jam, happy that you are here.

September has been an entertaining one.  I finished Last Day of June, which ended up being more of a punch to the feelings-gut than I was anticipating.  I also started Fire Emblem: Three Houses on Nintendo Switch, while still playing Fortnite, debating how/when/if I want to dive back into the Mass Effect franchise.  And playing that Untitled Goose Game which I will cover in the coming weeks after things have died down a bit.  Or not.  There was also coverage for a wonderful retro indie platformer, Super Life of Pixel, and I also started Axiom Verge over on Epic's Gaming client, because whenever do you need an excuse to play a love letter to Metroid?  Speaking of which, didn't I start Shovel Knight a few weeks ago too?

I also picked up the newest expansion to Mansions of Madness 2nd Edition, Horrific Journeys which we will be playing this weekend (tomorrow) with our group of friends, and I am excited to see what scenario everyone wants to play as there is stories involving a train, cruise ship, and a zeppelin.  Our Dungeons & Dragons group going through "House of Strahd" is progressing nicely with [events that happened on Tuesday].  In other D&D related news, I am trying really hard not to to jump on the Reaper Bones V pizza train, mainly because it has been over a year (and then some) since I last painted miniatures and I do not know if I could justify increasing my unpainted miniature collection by another 100+ miniatures.  Plus after seeing the custom miniature that one member of our PC group, Fréshávó, made over at Hero Forge, I am seriously considering having my Halfling Wild Mage Sorcerer created, mainly because there are not enough Halfling magic user miniatures out there.  Now I would just have to decide if I want to plunk down between $19.99 -$39.99.

And speaking of spoopiness earlier, I started playing Resident Evil Revelations 2 earlier in the week, going so far as to register an account with Capcom in order to unlock whatever it is that registering your game through Capcom's website helps you to unlock.  Presently, I think it is access to some weapons in the Raid Modes, a couple of costumes for the playable characters, and two extra side quests that I have yet to find out how they are related to the main campaign.  I do not know if I will have the time to finish the main campaign before the end of month in order to either start up Outlast II, or one of the other horror related games I already have, like Goetia, or Hollow.  I also recently picked up Conarium through Epic Games, so there is that avenue too.  I would love to delve into both Call of Cthulhu and The Sinking City but I am going to wait for Christmas because hopefully someone with $50+ reads this and decides that they like me enough to buy one/both? for me.  Yes, I just did that.  There is also the Amnesia Collection recently released on the Switch, but I will probably wait until there is a drop in price, mainly because I have already played all of the games in that collection on PC.  I am also considering playing through Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem too because of how much I love that game and it is fitting for the season.  There are just too many games that I want to play that fall within the horror category and there is this annoying work that keeps getting in the way (just kidding, I do enjoy my job).

And Conklederp and I just started watching the French TV series Marianne, which after only a couple of episodes started giving me nightmares, but only the kind that are odd, uncomfortable, and you are not really sure if you are awake, dreaming, or experiencing sleep paralysis.  I could actually see either Netflix or another company picking up the North American rights to the show and remaking it as an American series and butchering the shit out of it, not unlike other attempts.

I think I am going to leave it at that.  September felt semi-productive gaming-wise and the same for October.  Plus I have a handful of Demos that I have recently downloaded that I may decide to write about if the demos themselves prove to be attractive as far as demos go.
