It's been a while since I started Phantasmagoria, but I 100% remember the basement, or at least what you can explore in the early game. I recall thinking that there was going to be some kind of time limit mechanic a la Shadowgate with the matches and then the lantern, that something might crawl out of the tanks and why was there a gated door over. . . .WHAT THE FUCK IS RUNNING TOWARDS ME!?!q!/?
I just love that fast-paced drum beat like someone is running towards you, or rapidly knocking on the door, or pounding on a wooden tank, which for the most part is counter-intuitive to how point-and-click games operate, but it is still very effective. It's just a great effect in a song that is already designed to be creepy and unnerving.
