MIDI Week Singles: "Cleaning in the City" - Biolab Wars (NS)

"Cleaning in the City" from Biolab Wars on the PC, and Nintendo Switch (2019)
Composer: Zé Roberto Chapolin
Album: Biolab Wars Soundtrack
Label: Steam
Publisher: Forever Entertainment
Developer 2nd Boss

The music in action games, or at least modern games styled after older action games (NES era) do not always rely heavily on music but it certainly helps to keep the momentum of the game moving forward from the first stage onwards.  Once the player gets passed the title screen, you need to have something catchy to hold their attention that perfectly accompanies the action on screen.

"Cleaning in the City" is the track from Stage 1 in 2nd Boss's game Biolab Wars and for me, this music is perfect for introducing the player to the energy of the game.  The chugging guitars and drumbeat for the first 20 seconds then carries the through to the main melody.  I am a little surprised that the intro repeats with the rest of the song at 1:04-1:05, but that is just my preconceived expectations, but it helps that the intro is super catchy as well.

"Cleaning in the City" does what it is supposed to do, so kudos again to Zé Roberto Chapolin for another great composition and I highly recommend checking out the rest of the soundtrack if you are a fan of 8-16 bit inspired game soundtracks as it does play wonderfully on its own outside of the context of the game.  SoI hope you do.
